Aerial Photography
Obtaining accurate land area measurements through the use of remotely sensed digital imagery has great advantages over on-ground manual measurement methods. Some of these advantages include lower cost, ease of use, and timeliness (response and delivery). We offer professional services for the exploitation and analysis of all modalities of imagery, such as panchromatic, radar, multispectral, hyperspectral, historical and digital.
Digital Imagery
Digital aerial photography is collected and stored as a digital image. Photography collected in this manner is capable of providing ground resolutions ranging from 6 inch to 2 meter. The imagery is collected and provided as 3-band or 4-band in either, true color, color infrared, infrared, or colorized format depending upon user preference and is provided cloud-free. Additionally, the images are georeferenced using GPS control and can be delivered in any specified coordinate system for use in common GIS software. In addition to the digital qualities of the photography, after the image collection is complete, the images are geometrically corrected for terrain variation (orthorectification) and differences in color balance (radiometry). This additional processing allows the resulting imagery to have an accuracy level compatible with GPS technology. In all cases, the accuracy of the digital imagery will exceed 1:10,000 scale USGS National Map Accuracy Standards. We have found that an all-digital collection method to be very cost effective and streamlined with GIS systems. In fact, digital sensor technology has advanced to the point that the cameras offer the coverage and performance of an aerial film camera with many other advantages over traditional film imagery.
Traditional Imagery
Whether you are creating new topographic mapping to study flood zones, laying the foundation for a new GIS, or considering potential new highway corridors, aerial photography is essential. Orbis provides full-service aerial photography. Orbis has earned an excellent reputation among federal agencies, cities, counties, and other organizations for our black-and-white, color, and infrared aerial photography, the basis for accurate, true-to-scale topographic maps and digital orthophotographs. Developing and sharing the right information, and maintaining its use, reliability, and timeliness requires resources, experience, knowledge, and an understanding of its purpose. Orbis' longstanding expertise in aerial photography, mapping, photogrammetry, and digital orthophotography, helps us provide services in the area of remote sensing. We are capable of providing remote sensing products from satellite imagery to thermal imagery.
Historical Imagery
Historical photography is an invaluable resource when examining the environmental, planning, and construction history of an area. Using our extensive collection of aerial photography and available commercial and government archives, Orbis can locate and acquire a comprehensive inventory of all available historic photography of a specific site dating back as far as the mid-1930's. Orbis produces contact prints, film diapositives and photographic enlargements used in a wide variety of mapping applications.
