GIS Data Services
Your GIS database is only as good as the data you put into the system. Orbis, Inc. has the experience necessary to develop and manage your GIS database to the level necessary for your organization to properly manage its resources. Orbis, Inc. has a knowledge staff of GIS professionals that have worked with data types ranging from custom datasets to governmental data sets. Orbis, Inc. can guild your organization in the initial development of your GIS database, update/upgrade your GIS data, and add new data to your current GIS database. Data Creation
Orbis' data services include the creation of either single layer or multi-layer GIS databases. We have the ability to create these datasets from a variety of sources using a multitude of processes. We can create them by manual digitization, COGO data entry, scanning, vectorization, or by purchasing existing data sets and integrating these with client-specific data. Additionally, Orbis creates datasets by converting pre-existing data into a format specific to the clients system - i.e. Arc/Info (NT & Unix versions), AutoCAD, or Intergraph.
Data Management
In addition to creating data sets, Orbis offers data services to assist clients in properly managing their GIS datasets. For those organizations that are not familiar with GIS software, Orbis can serve as a data manager -- to physically manage the datasets and have responsibility for the day-to-day upkeep of the system. Orbis also provides third-party data management evaluation for clients. This involves assessing current data flow procedures (includes defining procedures for maintaining databases and enhancing existing data), reviewing existing data sets and their utilization in the GIS (use of TIGER data, DRG's, etc.), and assessing the accuracy of various data sources and the impact of these sources on the use of and enhancement of a GIS system. Orbis is also skillful with client-server GIS systems and administration (primarily ESRI's SDE environment).
Data Manipulation
Orbis is skillful in teaching clients how to use their GIS data to make beneficial management decisions. Clients are assisted in performing analytical operations, creating custom maps to relay pertinent information in meetings, and customizing their GIS user interfaces to allow for easier user access. In general, we help your organization maximize the use of your GIS data.
