Summer has made its debut yet again, meaning it’s that time of year when Orbis’ internship program is in full swing. This year we have brought on two interns, one in marketing and one in GIS. We are excited to welcome both Ellie and Grace, and we cannot wait to get to know them and help to develop their knowledge in the world of natural resources. For the next three months, they will be working with our team to gain experience with marketing techniques and GIS programming respectively. Our company loves the opportunity to engage interns as it allows us to give aspiring young people the chance to explore their interests while also gaining beneficial experience in the working world. Additionally, we are always interested in the new ideas and approaches they can bring to the company. You can read a little more about each of our interns below.
Grace Beatty: GIS Intern
The Orbis team is eager to welcome Grace as our GIS intern for the summer, after her recent graduation from UNC Charlotte. She earned her undergraduate degree there in geography, which she chose with the original intent of doing construction management, although she now wants to pursue a career related to GIS! During her time in college she played on the UNCC softball team, where she exhibited her competitive and athletic nature. In her free time, you are most likely to find Grace either working out or traveling. In fact, this summer she is traveling all the way to El Salvador on a mission trip. In the fall she will be going back to school (but this time in Texas) to receive her masters in GIS at Sam Houston State University. Her main role this summer at Orbis will be working alongside our GIS specialists to help with and develop GIS projects under the management of Corey Turner. She is looking forward to her internship because of the hands-on experience it will give her and the opportunity to learn more about GIS and the other programs used at Orbis.
Ellie Kimbrough: Marketing Intern
We are excited for Ellie to join the Orbis team this summer as our very first marketing intern. Ellie attends school at North Carolina State University, where she is planning to major in political science with a law and justice concentration due to her longtime interest in history and politics. Her intention upon graduation is to apply for law school. She is also minoring in Spanish and hopes to study abroad in Peru next summer. During the school year, Ellie actively participates with her sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, as well as attending sporting events, and spending time outdoors. In her free time, she enjoys reading, working out, traveling, and photography. Ellie’s passion for searching, researching, learning new things and acquiring immense knowledge has led to her to apply for the marketing internship. She aims to gain a new understanding/perspective from the aspects of marketing in business which she plans to take with her throughout her future career. Her role at Orbis will include working under Onnie Kiland to generate content, help us maintain our social media presence, and assist with other marketing related projects.
